World Building

Since I want to go with a Norse Mythology edge, I say races should be human, elf, half elf, and drow? The other races in norse are either giants, dwarves, Gods and valkaries.

Not a lot of half-elves in Norse mythology, but there's no reason we can't use 'em anyway... Valkyries aren't a race, traditionally, but we could treat them as one.

A Norse edge will make a significant impact, although I gather we aren't going all-out with it. Let's make the Svartalfar different from AD&D drow, though-- that's been done to death.

Yeah... I say, we make up our own races. How about a fuzzy furreh race? =3

Fox and wolf people, bunny people, feline, etc. The amount they are covered in hair represents their age. At birth, they get tail and ears, when their old, they are covered in fur. xD

No reason why not. Hmmm... how about snake people? They aren't in much use, but you could get some interesting things going there.

And crows and such! How about just the whole animagus thing where people can turn to half animal beings. Such as a bird would have the person grew wings, cats get claws and tail and ears... etc.

That could be an interesting character class... shouldn't be too impossible to create in the game. Do we want a big, strong, scary race?

Lizards and reptilians animagus / furry things? xD

Or maybe... I dunno yet... that's something to work at...

In any event, we can work with the starting set. We should also work on some regions of the world-- those can give us starting points for quests, among other things.

Hel - Goddess of Death. (Reeeeally ugly.)

Alfheimer - World of Elves (Álfar)

Svartalfaheimur / Nidavellir - World of Dwarves (Dvergar)

Jotunheimar - World of Giants (Jötnar)

Valhalla - Located in Asgard, Odins Hall. Home to Einherjar

Einherjar - Souls of the greatest warriors selected by Valkyries.

Ragnarok - The 'End of the World'

Don't forget Niddhogg, the dragon gnawing at the roots of Yggdrasil, or Utgard-Loki, the trickster giant so tricky he outwitted Thor and Loki together. (Granted, Thor wasn't bringing a lot to the party...)

Oh, yes. Mythology has been an interest of mine for years, and I hit various cultures beyond the classic Norse and Greco-Roman stuff.

For Shana of the Ghosts (My completed project, but I'm embarrassed by it, since I've learned so much since then) I used a legend from Basque mythology for the big bad-- Benzozia, Mother Dragon, voted mythological figure who most resembles a volcano from a region that doesn't have volcanoes... these days.

Basque, among other things, may well be the oldest language in the world.

Utgard-Loki was an interesting bit-- he used illusions to disguise various followers of his in challenging Thor and company to various contests, so that Thor lost drinking, Thialfi a footrace, and Loki an eating contest. Thor was also bested in a wrestling match by Utgard-Loki's grandmother, and couldn't even lift U-L's cat off the ground.

Of course, this is because Thor was trying to drink the entire sea (disguised as an ordinary drinking horn), Thialfi trying to outrace Thought itself, and Loki trying to outeat a raging fire. The "Wrestling match" was against Old Age, and the cat was, in fact, the Midgard Serpent, also disguised.

Utgard-Loki was a tricky, tricky bastard.

Oh, yes. Of course, if you look at the Aesir as a whole, there's a lot of tricky bastards, notably Odin. Odin was not a nice guy. He was a tricky, manipulative, evil old bastard who had no principles and no scruples, and who lived to cause wars among mankind. But he got results, when it came to warfare with the Jotun.

I was going to take locations from the Wiki page and turn them into towns and etc. I'm still working on the world map.
